My Favorite Links/E-Group Newletters

As with my crafting blog, there are some invaluable resources I count on to get my many recipes (I'm a lil addicted to recipes and cookbooks). Like crafting where the patterns are so expensive, I find that cookbooks are so pricey. That's when I started to look on-line. I subscribe to MANY different e-groups and I just love them. Because I'm a huge nerd, I've built this gigantic database in which I keep all my recipes. It's just easier. If I want a beef recipe, I can query that. If I want a beef roast recipe to do in the crockpot - I can query that. Or, if I open the fridge and see that all I have is ketchup, onion, roast, and relish - I can query those ingredients and find recipes that have them in it. I'm a high tech cook I guess. =)
Now, I realize that this is quite an extensive list, and there are some groups that are better than others, but, they all have recipes and many have very nice people in the groups that they are worth it. Of course, I subscribe to the digest versions of these E-groups and it's still a lot of emails. I can't imagine getting a new email for every recipe! If you're interested, here's my list of E-groups. There will be websites throughout as well. =)

Crockpot Roast To Die For!

So my DH finally gets home today - YAY! And I have been so busy these last few days getting our house converted into a home and getting somewhat of a menu ready for him. I'm so excited - like a lil kid on Christmas. So excited, nervous, anxious - and just can't wait! I haven't seen my hubby since the 19th of January, at the airport after arriving home from our wonderful honeymoon in Cuba. So, now, he's finally going to be home! Here's what's on the menu for tonights supper.

CROCKPOT ROAST TO DIE FOR!
1 roast
2 Tbsp cracked peppercorns
2 cloves of garlic
3 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp dry mustard

1. Cut small slits in the roast. Rub with the cracked pepper and garlic.
2. In a small bowl, mix remaining ingredients (except the roast of course).
3. Put in a crockpot and cook on high for 4-5 hours or 8-10 hours on low.

How I alter this recipe is I add about 4 potatoes cut up, 4 carrots cut up, and some celery and onion in the bottom of the crockpot. If I have time I baste the roast and veggies a few times during cooking. It's delicious and to die for. And, this is the first thing I ever made for my DH and he said he liked it so I'm making it for him again. The poor guy has been living on canned soup or chili or frozen meals since he's been out in the field. Well, that changes now. =)

Until next time...happy cooking. =)
